Delaware Waterfowl, Trout Stamp Contests to be Held April 11 at Delaware Agricultural Museum in Dover
DOVER (April 8, 2013) - Wildlife art enthusiasts, stamp and print collectors, waterfowl hunters, anglers, birdwatchers and wetland conservationists will gather at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 11 at the Delaware Agriculture Museum and Village in Dover to watch the judging of Delaware's annual Waterfowl Stamp (formerly known as Duck Stamp) and Trout Stamp contests. Entries will be on display at the museum through Monday, April 29.

DOVER (April 5, 2013) - DNREC Division of Fish & Wildlife Enforcement agents made 1,231 contacts with hunters, anglers, boaters and the general public. These included 132 boating safety/fishing regulation compliance checks, which resulted in five anglers being cited for unlicensed fishing during a tournament.
DOVER (April 5, 2013) - The 2013 Delaware spring turkey hunting season opens Saturday, April 13, and runs through Saturday, May 11, the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife announced today. Hunting hours are a half-hour before sunrise until 1 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Hunters are reminded that all birds taken must be checked at an authorized turkey check station by 2:30 p.m. on the day of the hunt.

DOVER (April 4, 2013) - DNREC's Division of Fish and Wildlife reminds recreational anglers and commercial watermen that harvest or possession of river herring, a popular baitfish, is illegal in Delaware. Anglers must have a valid receipt from a state or jurisdiction where harvest is still permitted to possess river herring.

On Saturday, April 6th, the Delaware National Guard will host a departure ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. at Delaware State University, 1200 North DuPont Highway, Dover, Del. For approximately 325 members of the 198th Expeditionary Signal Battalion deploying to Afghanistan. The ceremony is open to the public and the media are invited to attend.
While the additional C-130 is classified as a backup, it will provide an additional resource for operational missions that include airlift and airdrop.

Turkey Hunt Day for Youth, Hunters with Disabilities Set for April 6, with State Wildlife Areas Open to Hunting
DOVER (April 3, 2013) - Prior to Delaware's 2013 spring turkey season, youth ages 10 through 15 and non-ambulatory hunters with disabilities will have a special one-day hunting opportunity on Saturday, April 6. This year, and for the first time, these hunters can go for turkeys on state wildlife areas that are open for hunting during Delaware's regular turkey season. Traditionally, this special one-day hunt was restricted to private property.
The 19 individuals and groups will be honored by Gov. Jack Markell at the Governor's Youth Volunteer Service Awards on April 25 at Dover Downs Hotel for their outstanding service to Delaware's communities.
Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission to Hold Public Hearing on American Eel Management Plan on April 11
DOVER (April 3, 2013) - The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) will hold a public hearing in Delaware at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 11 to gather public comment on a draft addendum to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan (FMP) for American eel. The hearing will be held in DNREC's Auditorium at 89 Kings Highway in Dover.
DOVER (April 3, 2013) - Weather permitting, DNREC's Mosquito Control Section has started its annual spring woodland-pool spraying this week, treating wooded wetlands for control of immature (larval) mosquitoes near populated areas in New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties. Approximately 5,000 to 8,000 acres with woodland pools where early season mosquitoes breed in quantity will be strategically larvicided by helicopter, and possibly fixed-wing aircraft.
DNREC's Sportsmen Against Hunger Program Distributes Nearly 19,000 Pounds of Venison to Delawareans In Need
DOVER (April 3, 2013) - During the 2012-2013 deer season, hunters donated 18,761 pounds of venison from 708 deer to the Delaware Sportsmen Against Hunger Program. DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife staff is working to distribute the frozen ground venison to more than 30 charitable organizations and food pantries throughout the state to provide meals for needy Delawareans.
Biden Marks Child Abuse Prevention Month, Announces Indictments of Millsboro Men on Child Pornography Charges
Attorney General Beau Biden today marked the beginning of Child Abuse Prevention Month, which is recognized nationally each April, by announcing the recent indictments of two Millsboro men on child pornography charges following an investigation by the Delaware Child Predator Task Force.
