While it seems as though many area farmers’ markets are thriving, selling everything from fresh produce to homemade jellies and breads, not all have been a success.

The Selbyville Volunteer Fire Company is aiming to add a new ladder truck to its fleet, and the Selbyville Town Council offered their full approval at their June 3 meeting.

Tenth-grader Chris Smith is well on his way to becoming an Eagle Scout out of Ocean View Boy Scout Troop 281. Having built and donated three bike racks, which now reside at Phillip C. Showell Elementary School, the Southern Delaware School of the Arts and Selbyville Town Hall, Smith recently went into the classrooms at Showell to also teach kids about the importance of bike safety.

Old Timer’s Day is right around the corner in Selbyville, and planning is well under way. The annual town festival is scheduled for Saturday, June 15, with plenty of ways people can participate.

Selbyville officials reported at the May 6 town council meeting that new bike racks have been installed in the town.

Exactly six months after Hurricane Sandy scrubbed the East Coast, replacing basements and roadways with floodwater and debris, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is poised to rebuild Delaware’s Atlantic shoreline.

The Selbyville Town Council this week approved a new home-based business selling firearms. At the council’s regular meeting April 1, they unanimously voted to allow Douglas Helfer and Phil Oneschuk to open Main Street Trader LLC in a detached garage at Helfer’s residence at 20 South Main Street, across from Hastings Funeral Home.

New markets join in Bellefonte, Dover

The Delaware farmers’ market season launches this month, featuring new markets in Dover and Bellefonte, with farmers and markets fresh off a record-setting sales season of nearly $2 million last year.

Selbyville will test two newly drilled town wells again, after a test in one showed a spike in methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE). Erik Retzlaff, an associate with Davis, Bowen & Friedel Inc., who works for the town, said the wells will be re-sampled by independent laboratories and the Town will “go from there.”

Officials with the National Weather Service are now predicting that a winter storm will impact the area between Wednesday and Thursday, March 6 and 7. According to the NWS on Tuesday:

The town council recently once again proclaimed March to be Kids Art Month, and the Selbyville Community Club will celebrate it with their annual children’s art show.

A high wind warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for 7 p.m. Wednesday evening to 4 a.m. Thursday. Winds are predicted to be from the south at 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph.

The strongest winds are expected between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 4 a.m. Thursday, just ahead of a cold front crossing Delaware and southern New Jersey.

The Indian River School District's public referendum meeting originally scheduled for Jan. 24 has been postponed due to inclemenent weather. It has been rescheduled for Monday, Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. at East Millsboro Elementary School.

District officials will give a presentation outlining the various referendum initiatives and the public will have the opportunity to ask questions.

Delaware State Police detectives have arrested four suspects in a home-invasion robbery that occurred in Plantation Park near Frankford on Thursday evening.

Selbyville could become more attractive to developers after the town council this week unanimously approved a zoning amendment for residential planned communities (RPCs). The new RPC district is a new overlay option developers may use when designing a new neighborhood.
