Ruth Hudson Ayres, 90, of Millsboro, Del., passed away Monday, Nov. 6, 2017, at Delaware Hospice, Milford, Del. She was the daughter of the late Harley Washington Hudson and Edna Lowe Hudson of Millsboro.

Talvaldis G. ‘Valdis’ Berzins, 89

Talivaldis G. “Valdis” Berzins of Ocean View, Del., died peacefully Nov. 6, 2017, at Delaware Hospice in Milford, Del., after a brief illness. He was born in 1928 in Riga, Latvia. During World War II, at the age of 16, Berzins, his parents and his brother had to flee Latvia for safety.

Donald Clayton Collins, 75

Donald Clayton Collins, 75, of Clarksville, Del., passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, surrounded by his family, after a long illness. He was born Dec. 25, 1941, in Roxana, Del., the seventh of seven children of Eli Collins and Agnes (McCabe) Collins.

Collins was a merchant seaman with Sun Oil Company for 20 years and with Local 333 for five years.

Dr. John M. Coulson, 86, a native Philadelphian and a longtime resident of Bethany Beach, Del., and Silver Spring, Md., died on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017, in Asheville, N.C.

Vincent ‘Vinnie’ Esposito Sr., 80

Vincent “Vinnie” Esposito Sr., 80, of Ocean View, Del., formerly of Bloomfield, N.J., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at his home on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017. He was born May 18, 1937, in Harleigh, Pa., the ninth child of the late Sabatino Esposito and Josephine (Signorella) Esposito.

Edward ‘Buddy’ Kissinger, 72

Edward “Buddy” Kissinger of Bethany Beach, Del., passed away in Fort Myers, Fla., on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017. He was born on April 26, 1945.

Terence ‘Terry’ McDowell, 77

Terence “Terry” McDowell of Bethany Beach, Del., passed away Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017. He was born on Oct. 15, 1940.

McDowell graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1963 and shortly thereafter began a 40-plus-year career with the Department of Commerce, U.S. Census Bureau.

Theresa E. Murray, 94

Theresa E. Murray, 94, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017. She passed away quietly, surrounded by her loving family, at home in Ocean View, Del. Born in Long Island, N.Y., she moved with her family to Laurel, Del., when she was a child and attended schools in Laurel.

Wilmer W. Powell, 90

Wilmer W. Powell, 90, of Frankford, Del., passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, in his home. He was born April 27, 1927, in Frankford, Del., a son of the late Granville Powell and Viola Rogers Powell.

For 35 years, he worked as a budget analyst for the State of Delaware, and after his retirement he worked as an income-tax preparer.

Robbie Lee Turnage, 31

Robbie Lee Turnage, 31, of Millsboro, Del., passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del., after a tragic accident in Dagsboro, Del. He was born Oct. 3, 1986, in Lewes, son of Thelma Turnage and Robbie Hagans.

Elaine Watson, 75, of Millsboro, Del., passed away on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at Atlantic Shores Nursing & Rehab Center. She was born March 16, 1942, in Pensacola, Fla., to the late Luther E. Eppinger and Martha I. Lundy Eppinger.

Charles Edward Dobbs Sr., 91, of Selbyville, Del., died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del. He was born in Cobb, Wis., son of the late Francis and Mabel (Chandler) Dobbs.

Randall L. Evans, 59, of Frankford, Del., passed away suddenly on Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, at his home.

“Randy” was born in Salisbury, Md., on Jan. 14, 1958, son of Joseph Albert Evans and the late Gladys Orna (Lathbury) Evans. He was a graduate of Indian River High School, Class of 1977.

Warner “Bud” C. Haynie, 84

Warner “Bud” C. Haynie, 84, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Linwood, Pa., passed away and went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017.

Haynie was born in Chester, Pa., on Sept. 3, 1933, son of the late Warner C. Haynie and Margaret (Cohen) Ellington. He retired in 1997 as an electrician with General Chemical Company in Marcus Hook, Pa.

Walter Marshall Mumford, 84, of Millsboro, Del., passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, at the home of his daughter, Linda Brittingham.

Born on Oct. 28, 1933, “Marshall” was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Myrtle Mumford; his wife, Betty Ann Mumford; and his daughter, Marsha Ann Mumford Jenney.

John H. Scott Jr., 48, of Georgetown, Del., passed away and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017. He was the son of Barbara M. Scott and the late John H. Scott, Sr.

He was a 1987 graduate of Sussex Central High School, Georgetown, Del., and attended one year at Delaware State University in Dover.

Shirley B. West, 82

Shirley B. West, 82, of Selbyville, Del., and formerly of Bishopville, Md., died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. She was born in Bishopville, daughter of the late Ollie J. Sr. and Maude (McCabe) Savage.

She had owned Shirley’s Day Care Center in Bishopville for many years.

Barkley Ernest Wilson, 82

Barkley Ernest Wilson, 82, of Georgetown, Del., passed away on Nov. 2, 2017, at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Del.

Wilson was the eldest son of the late Ernest and Grace Fleetwood Wilson of Cool Spring, Del., where he grew up on a farm with his brother, Elmer, and his sister, Shirley.

Shirley C. Brasure

Shirley C. Brasure died peacefully at home with her children at her side. She was a native of Lewes, Del., and graduated from Lewes High School in 1949.

She was employed by Avon Products in Newark, Del., from 1975 to 1992. Before that, she worked for National Cash Register Company in Millsboro, Del.

Irving Thomas Cannon III, 54, passed away unexpectedly, as the result of an accident, on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017. He was born on Nov. 6, 1962, in Salisbury, Md., to the late Irving T. Cannon Jr. and Joyce Ann Hudson Longfellow, who survives him.

Elmer Lee Conquest, 72

Elmer Lee Conquest, 72, of Delmar, Del., passed away and was called home to the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017. He entered this life on Dec. 24, 1944, to the late Nelson Ames and Hazel Harmon.

Conquest’s elementary education was received in the Melfa, Va., public school system and the Phillip C. Showell Elementary School in Selbyville, Del.

Cora ‘Joan’ Earnest Downing, 89

Cora “Joan” Earnest Downing, 89, departed this life on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017, with her daughter, Edie, at her side. She succumbed to the debilitating effects of a massive stroke she suffered in 2013. Downing and her twin sister, Jean, were born on March 21, 1928.

Robert D. “Bob” Eggers, 39, of Dagsboro, Del., died on Oct. 22, 2017, at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, Md. A resident of Dagsboro for the past 10 years, he had previously resided in Aston, Pa., and Boothwyn, Pa.

Alfred E. “Al” Gerhard Sr., 71, of Millsboro, Del., passed away on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del. He was born in Lancaster, Pa., on Jan. 4, 1946, son of the late Phillip S. Gerhard and the late Mary E. (Flury) Gerhard.
