He was born on March 24, 1925, in Marshallberg, N.C., to Frederick de Maurville Bertram and Mareita Alpha (de Ogburn) Bertram.

Anita Paige Briddell, 83

Anita Paige Briddell, 83, known to many as “Bitsy or Mom-Bitsy,” of Dagsboro, Del., passed away and went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, Del., surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Berlin, Md., on July 18, 1933, to the late Otha Henry and Clara Briddell.

Steven V. Brummell, 63

Steven V. Brummell, 63, of Millsboro, Del., passed away at Atlantic Shores Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on Jan. 16, 2017. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on Oct. 14, 1953.

Joyce Elaine Dravk, 73

Joyce Elaine Dravk, 73, of Frankford, Del., passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, in her home. She was born April 8, 1943, in York, Pa., a daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Householder Krafft.

Dravk is survived by her husband, Stephen E. Dravk, and two daughters, Jeanette Lee and Stephanie Dravk.

Kevin R. Fisher, 58, of Millsboro, Del., passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 10, 2017. He was born Sept. 5, 1958, in Lewes, Del., to the late Oliver R. and Nettie Carey Fisher.

Shirley A. Gabriel, 80

Shirley A. Gabriel, 80, of Millington, Md., formerly of Millsboro, Del., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at Autumn Lake Healthcare in Chestertown, Md. She was born in New Jersey on May 4, 1936, daughter of the late Oscar Thomas Faucett and Beatrice (Haines) Faucett.

James Allen Giles, 66

James Allen Giles, 66, died peacefully Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, in his home. He was born Nov. 20, 1950, in Chester, Pa. He lived in Claymont, Del., for most his life and was a dedicated steelworker until his retirement in 2013.

He was a diehard Eagles fan, and he practically bled green. He will be deeply missed by all.

David Joseph Hall

David Joseph Hall passed away peacefully in Lake City, Minn., with his parents by his side.

He loved his family and church. Hall enjoyed listening to Elton John’s music and watching the Vikings football team. He lived in Minnesota, a place he loved. He will be sadly missed.

Allan Joseph Richmond, 81, of Millsboro, Del., passed away at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, Del., on Jan. 13, 2017. Richmond was born in Becket, Mass. on Sept. 19, 1935, to the late Allan J. Richmond and Leona C. Thompson Richmond.

Viola Mae Atkins, 93, of Millsboro, Del., passed away in the care of Harrison House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Georgetown, Del., on Jan. 2, 2017. She was born June 17, 1923, in Millville, Del., to the late Carl and Leona Morgan.

William Orville Bailey Sr., 84, of Frankford, Del., passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, in his home. He was born Sept. 17, 1932, in Saxis Island, Va., a son of the late Herman Bailey Sr. and Ella Blanche (Linton) Bailey.

David K. Conrad, 87

David K. Conrad, 87, formerly of New Cumberland, Pa., passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017. He passed peacefully at his home, with his loving wife of 67 years, Donna Fetrow Conrad, at his side. He was born in Harrisburg, Pa., on March 10, 1929, to the late John L. Conrad and Helene M. Conrad.

Richard Vernon Custin, 71

Richard Vernon Custin, 71, of Felton, Del., passed away on Jan. 2, 2017.

Custin was a heavy-equipment operator.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Willen Custin; two daughters, Brenda Hopkins and Renee Furgeson; four stepsons, Lucky Taylor, John Taylor Jr., Clark Payne and Mickey Payne; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Billy Taylor.

Diane Joan DiTolvo, 66, of Millsboro, Del., joined her loved ones in heaven on Jan. 1, 2017, passing away after fighting acute myeloid leukemia for the past year. She was born Jan. 30, 1950, in Perth Amboy, N.J., to Frank Skibinski and Helen (Ciejak) Skibinski.

Mary Grace Pacen, 80, of Bishopville, Md., died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md. Pacen was born in Washington, D.C., and was the daughter of the late Robert Merson and Ethel (Geiger) Merson.

Ruth T. (Riley) Schrider, 85, of Silver Spring, Md., died Monday, Dec. 26, 2016, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and was the daughter of the late James Riley and Rose (McCarthy) Riley.

Schrider retired from work as a bookkeeper with Transit Union and was a member of Holy Savior Catholic Church in Ocean City, Md.

Robert B. “Bruce” Smith, 78, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Philadelphia, Pa., passed away on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, Del. He was born in Upper Darby, Pa., on June 27, 1938, son of the late Joseph Knox Smith and Louise (Muir) Smith.

Taylor was born in Chincoteague, Va., on Oct. 14, 1946, to the late John Taylor and Emma Thorton Taylor.

Katherine E. (Fleetwood) Vickery, 92, passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017, at Cadia Rehabilitation Renaissance in Millsboro, Del. She was born in Seaford, Del., to the late Charles C. Fleetwood and Mary (Watson) Fleetwood.

Vickery enjoyed reading, and especially writing. She loved writing about experiences she had growing up in Fleetwood Pond.

Thelma Blaxall, 86, passed away at her home on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016. Born on Jan. 7, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Barlow and Eulah Atwell.

Andrew F. Cogar, 36

Andrew F. Cogar, 36, of Dagsboro, Del., passed away on Dec. 22, 2016, in his home. He was born April 22, 1980, in Malvern, Pa., son of Aaron Cogar and Agnes Tomlinson Cogar.

He worked as a cook at Smitty McGee’s.

Cogar was preceded in death by his mother, Agnes Cogar. He is survived by his father, Aaron Cogar, and his son, Dylan.
