The Orioles are still somehow relevant in July
As I write this column, the Baltimore Orioles have a record of 43-37. That’s 43 wins. And that’s 37 losses. That means the Orioles have won six more games than they have lost as of Wednesday morning.
Enjoy the day but practice some caution
There’s really no arguing how significant a holiday Independence Day is every year for this community.
Put everything else aside for this special holiday
Rest assured, we will have a few people in town to celebrate the Fourth of July.
Two painful losses shake our community
It was a dark couple days for our picturesque community.
Two young women were murdered within a few days of each other, and though they don’t appear to be connected in an way, shape or form, it was still sobering.
These things just don’t happen around here, after all. It was a jolt to our collective psyche.
Sometimes, my mouth can get me in a tight spot
Competitiveness is a heck of a thing.

State officials thank residents for input
Editor:
We would like to say “thank you” to all the residents who attended the Monday-evening discussion at the Millville Fire Hall on June 11, 2012, concerning the Beebe Medical Center located on Route 26 in Millville.
Frankford offering great service to residents
Sometimes we lose sight of what government is supposed to be doing for the people. Or, to put a fine point to it, sometimes government loses sight of what government is supposed to be doing for the people.
Father's Day brings memories of many phrases
With Father’s Day approaching, there is only one thing on my mind — the final round of golf’s U.S. Open.

Artisans Fair a hit, thanks to many
Editor:
On May 26, 2012, the South Coastal DE AARP sponsored its Fifth Annual Artisans Fair in support of our Scholarship Fund. We are grateful to many both in our chapter and throughout the community for making this year’s event another great success.
Now is the right time to prepare for hurricanes
Those of us who were here last year remember watching Hurricane Irene climb the coast and appear to head right to us. The weather broadcasters were predicting several different routes Irene might take as it traveled north, and all of them involved the storm dumping its rain and power right on us. Many of us, particularly in the coastal towns, fled for higher ground, boarded up windows and strapped down anything outside that could be strapped.
So, riddle me this -- why is my head so big?
I find myself looking at my head for an inordinate amount of time. It’s not that I’m fascinated with it, or paranoid that it’s shifting into something different. It just always seems to be around me.

On the Ball -- Playing catch
Ah, summertime… There’s nothing quite like hitting the ballpark, grabbing a couple of hotdogs and enjoying America’s pastime. Plenty of people, young and old, will even sport a baseball glove in hopes of catching that stray foul ball, or, better yet, a home run — though, more often than not, they come up without a souvenir.
Our future is in good hands with today’s youth
For a relatively young nation, we do appreciate our past times in this country. We love baseball, apple pie, and tearing down our neighbors so we can build ourselves up — as well as hot dogs, the spirit of entrepreneurship and peace through superior fire power.
Memorial Day not the same without the Legion
There are certain events and circumstances that take place in our community over the course of any given year that we just hate to get involved in, for various reasons. One of the touchiest, and least palatable reasons, is the “he-said, she-said” dynamic.
On the Ball -- Maryland pride echoes in Delaware, too
Two weeks ago, I was giddy with excitement as my beloved Baltimore Orioles were shocking the nation, leading the American League, and were only a game behind the top spot overall in the MLB. Growing up in Maryland, I became an Orioles fan during the Cal Ripken Jr. era, but, as all O’s fans can attest, it’s been quite a while since we’ve seen a Baltimore team of that caliber.

Despite extended recession, County looks good
Times have been tough in recent years — not just here, but everywhere. Real estate has taken a hit, the job market has been strained and people are owing more on college loans than ever before.
Selbyville law may not be the right answer
Selbyville’s new bar and restaurant law, which states that alcohol may not be served after 11:30 p.m., is one bourne out of both a need to protect the town’s citizens and to re-establish the reputation of the town in general.

Reader takes issue with previous letter
Editor:
Unfortunately the letter to the editor, this past week, re: President Obama, starts out with a false statement—“it’s not true I believe everything I read on the Internet.” He has shown us in his original letter and in this letter that he really does believe every lie that is written on the Internet.
Bike tour demonstrates Quiet Resorts’ appeal
The annual Ocean to Bay Bike Tour, which was held on April 21 this year, has increasingly demonstrated its ability to both offer an option to locals looking for something to do outdoors on a spring weekend and to bring people from outside the area — and even the region — to the Quiet Resorts for a good time and to spend a little cash on food, drink, shopping and a nice place to stay.
From MCA to Mother's day -- connected somehow
I was struck by a wave of nostalgia last week. Actually, I was gobbled up by the wave, tossed on to the beach where I was subsequently picked up by a gust of wind and thrown back into the ocean so the wave would jerk me about like a lottery ball.
On the Ball -- Mum's the Word
Mum’s the word.
They may have allowed Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton to rock four two-run homers in one game earlier this week, but I’m still sticking by my trusted Baltimore Orioles, who share the top spot in the American League East with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
This weekend starts the busy season
Ladies and gentlemen, the season is soon upon us.
Anyone with a spectacular Coastal Point calendar (still have some in stock!) can tell you that Memorial Day weekend is only a few short weeks away. And while that used to be the unofficial start to the season, most of us fortunate enough to live here know that spring is really when we start seeing cars on the road.
