Asia Pacific shuts down Canada 10-0
Asia-Pacific (Manila, Philippines) took advantage of several fielding miscues by Canada (Windsor, Ontario) to jump out to an early lead, and never looked back in a 10-0 win that was stopped in the fifth inning due to the mercy rule.
Four errors by Canada in the first inning led to a 3-0 lead for Asia-Pacific, and numerous miscues in the second inning allowed the lead to swell to 9-0 after two. In that second inning, Dennise Cruz and Mary Luisse Garde both hit two-run singles.
Meanwhile, Asia-Pacific starting pitcher Adrianne Uy was cruising. She pitched two innings of one-hit, three-strikeout ball before giving way to Lily Mariejudiel Gonzales, who gave up two hits in her three innings of work. Canada only had one runner advance past first base the entire game, and that was when Samantha Davidson reached on an error in the top of the fifth, and Taylor Jones followed with a single, before Gonzales got out the next two batters to end the game.
The 10th and final run of the game was scored by Asia-Pacific in the bottom of the fourth. Daniella Uichico led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on a single by Maria Regina Roxas. Juliana Ocampo followed with a walk off Canada’s Tianna Johnston to load the bases and Uichico scored on a sacrifice fly by Gonzales.
