Donald L. ‘Donnie’ Donaway Sr., 68

Donald L. “Donnie” Donaway Sr., 68, of Frankford, Del., passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at his residence.

Born in Wicomico County, Md., Donaway had been a truck driver for many years and was most recently a trolley driver for the Town of Bethany Beach. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach and a Friend of Bill’s.

Donaway is survived by his mother, Leola Donaway Richards of Wilmington; a brother, Bruce Richards and his wife, Cindy, of Hockessin; a sister, Christeen Richards of Wilmington; daughter, Sharon Harris and her husband, Steve; his boys, Michael Doherty and his wife, Jinny, and Daniel Doherty; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Lee Donaway Jr., in 1990, a grandson, Justin Lee Donaway, in 2005 and his soulmate, Ruth Alice Rowles, in 2010.

A mass of Christian burial was scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway in Bethany Beach, Del., with the Rev. Chris Hanley officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Delaware Hospice; 100 Patriots Way; Milford, DE 19963. Arrangements are by Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville, Del.
