Editorial – Stockings and pumpkins hit Millville Saturday
Fall is a pretty special time in these parts.
The hubbub of the frantic summer season is behind us, the roads feel a bit more wide open and the changing leaves perform their typical brilliant autumnal show. And to top it off, there are fantastic events nearly every single weekend.
From arts festivals to town bashes to charitable golf tournaments, the “shoulder season” is a terrific time to get out and just enjoy all that is around us — and normally with gentle weather.
This Saturday sees the 6th Annual Great Pumpkin Festival take the spotlight in Millville. Operating from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the festival will be held at 32517 Dukes Drive. That might just sound like a random address at first blush, but it’s actually the future site of Millville’s town park, so it’s a good opportunity to get used to the location.
The festival is free to attend, and will feature games, kids’ rides and pumpkin decorating. Food from local restaurants will be available for sale throughout the event, and The Funsters will provide musical entertainment. There will also be more than 20 vendors attending, selling everything from clothing to jewelry and crafts, according to organizers.
For your planning purposes: There will also be a collection box on site for the Stockings for Soldiers drive. Contributions will go to soldiers serving overseas during the holidays, and surely we can all pull together to help some brave men and women have a little bit happier of a holiday season while they’re sacrificing so much for the rest of us.
