Dover’s second quarter was their best. Senators shooters put 20 more points on the scoreboard in the second quarter, to the Indian’s seven. At the mid-point, Dover led 32-10. When they returned, Senators shooters continued out-scoring IR through the second half.

“It was a tough game — very much so,” described IR head coach Donna Polk. “We had too many turnovers. We couldn’t execute. We had 25 turnovers in the first half. We weren’t able to get in to the flow of the game offensively. We just couldn’t score.”

Indians shooters delivered on two shots early in the second half, but Dover added four baskets to their total, for a 40-14 lead going into the final eight minutes. IR’s offense scored 10 points, while their defense held the Senators to 11 in the final period.

While forced to drop into the loser’s bracket, the Indians finished out the tournament with a 51-33 win over Milford on Dec. 28.

The Indians were set to return to Henlopen Conference action Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Sussex Academy (after Coastal Point press time), followed by a varsity doubleheader with the boys’ team at Cape Henlopen on Friday at 5 p.m. Next week, they’ll continue their road stretch, taking on Milford High School at Milford Central Academy on Jan. 9, and Lake Forest at Lake on Thursday, Jan. 11. Both games are at 6:15 p.m.
