Jacob H. West Jr., 80, of Millsboro, Del., passed away Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. He retired from the Union Local 2012 United Brotherhood of Joiners and Carpenters of America after many years of service as a carpenter.
A member of the Shiloh Community Church in Laurel, Del., West loved nothing more than discussing the Bible and joyously singing hymns. He loved fox hunting, sports and was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. Known as a great lover of seafood, especially crabs, he enjoyed eating them every Friday night at Old Mill in Delmar; he went as soon as they opened in March until they closed for the winter. He was well loved by many and had an abundance of friends.
West was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob H. West Sr. and Lizzie Oliphant West; his first wife, Betty Mitchell West; two brothers, Howard West and his wife, Vineyard, and Leon West; two sisters, Beatrice West and Elizabeth Bahn and her husband, Ed. He is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Betty Baker West; two sons, Jacob H. West III and his wife, Beverly, of Millsboro and William L. West and his wife, Karen, of Georgetown, Del.; a daughter, Betsy Ann West of Pottstown, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Deborah L. Shockley and her husband, Donald, of Pittsville, Md.; a brother, Charles P. West and his wife, Eleanor Lee, of Gumboro, Del.; six grandchildren, Kelly, Shannon, Hank, Trevor, Justin and Jeremy; a step-grandchild, Dana; two great-grandchildren, Lindsay and Brenn; two step-great-grandchildren, Kallie and Cody; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, with interment in Carey’s Cemetery, near Millsboro.
