Joseph E. McMann, 76
Joseph E. McMann, 76, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Pennsville, N.J., passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 26, 2012, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born March 31, 1936, at Ft. Mott in New Jersey, McMann was a United States Air Force veteran, having served during the Korean War and on the Texas Towers. He retired from DuPont in 1993 after 30 years of service as a safety supervisor, and he had served in the fire and protection unit at the Deepwater, N.J., plant. McMann was a member of the American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro, the Long Neck Cheer Center and the Texas Towers Association, and he had served for 25 years as assistant scout master of Boy Scout Troop 97 in Pennsville, N.J. McMann enjoyed woodworking and painting mountain and ocean scenes. He also loved camping and enjoyed his yearly trip to Maine.
McMann was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Louise (Rescola) McMann, and two siblings, Harry P. McMann and Mary Acito. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Elizabeth “Betty” (Brown) McMann; two children, Patricia Denelsbeck and her husband, Dave, of Pennsville, N.J., and Joe McMann of Millsboro, Del.; four grandchildren, Devon and David Denelsbeck, Christin Mulligan and Kristen McMann; a brother, Vincent “Mickey” McMann of Pennsville, N.J.; two sisters, Theresa Harris of Quinton, N.J., and Rose Cobb and her husband, Jack, of Sevierville, Tenn.; and a sister-in-law, Marie McMann of Cedar Grove, N.C.
A celebration of McMann’s life was scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Joe and Betty McMann’s home, at 34930 Breakers Street in Millsboro, Del. Arrangements were by Melson Funeral Services, through which condolences may be sent online at www.melsonfuneralservices.com. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice; 100 Patriots Way; Milford, DE 19963.
