Mary Catherine West Hearn, 90

Mary Catherine West Hearn, 90, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012.

Born June 3, 1921, in Laurel, Del., Hearn had a career in hotel/motel management in Ocean City, Md., but most recently at Arby’s in Seaford. She was a former winner of the Jefferson Award for Public Service. Hearn was a faithful member of the Laurel Wesleyan Church in Laurel, and she also attended the Calvary Baptist in Georgetown. Hearn is remembered for making the most of every minute of every day. She loved people and will be missed for sharing her many stories with them over the years.

Hearn was preceded in death by her parents, Harlan and Mary Elizabeth Hearn; her first husband, John Emory West, in 1989; two of her children, David and Keith West; and one grandchild, Mark West. She is survived by her second husband, Martin Thomas Hearn, of Laurel, Del.; three sons, John Lamont West and his wife, Catherine, of Salem, Texas, Doug West of Laurel, and Daniel West and his wife, Sandy, of Berlin, Md.; grandchildren Dana Felton, Becky White, Thomas N. Thomas, Shawn Messick, Kim Caulder (who was like a daughter to Hearn), and Ricky, John, Stacy, Alex, Ryan, Katie and Harley West; several great-grandchildren and her faithful dog Snoopy.

A memorial service was scheduled for March 5, 2012, at Laurel Wesleyan Church in Laurel, Del., with the Rev. Ken Deusa officiating, and interment at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Arrangements were being handled Watson Funeral House in Millsboro, Del.
