Richard E. Newman, Sr., 83

Richard E. Newman, Sr., 83, of near Georgetown, Del. passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at home. Before relocating to the beach 22 years ago, he lived in West Chester, Pa.  He was a heavy equipment operator working with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #542, Philadelphia, PA retiring in 1988 after 27 years of service. Newman was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post #28, Oak Orchard/Riverdale near Millsboro.
Newman is proceeded in death by his parents, Paul B. and Hazel A. Publicover Newman; his first wife, Dorothy Mae Newman; and a brother, Warren L. Newman. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Elizabeth Chambers Newman; a son, Richard E. (Sharon) Newman, Jr. of Laurel, Del; a daughter, Jodie Marie (Edward) Quinn of Middletown, Del.; three step sons, Raymond F. Chambers, Jr. of Georgetown, Del. Stephen M. (Joyce Shuster) Chambers of New Castle, Del. and Dale I. (Sherri) Chambers of Wilmington, Del.; a sister, Mabel E. Murray of Billirica, MA; a nephew, William Newman of Magnolia, MA; seven grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.  
Services are set for Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Gracelawn Memorial Park Chapel, 2220 N DuPont HWY, New Castle, Del. Friends may call one hour prior the service.  Interment with honors will follow service.  A memorial service will be 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 7, 2010 at the American Legion Post 28, 31768 Legion RD, Millsboro, Del. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to support the American Legion Post #28, 31768 Legion RD, Millsboro, DE 19966 in memory of Richard Newman.
