Roger S. Pool, 84
Roger S. Pool, 84, of Rehoboth Beach and Wilmington, Del., passed away peacefully at home, with family at his side, on Thursday, July 12, 2012.
Pool graduated from Salesianum High School in Wilmington, and he was considered a true “Salesian Gentleman.” He graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y., and served in the Navy during the latter part of World War II. He enjoyed a successful career as an engineer for the DuPont Company, retiring 1986 after completing a project in San Francisco, the highlight of his career. He then moved to Rehoboth Beach, where he proudly served as city commissioner in the early 1990s.
Pool was a member of VFW Post 7447 and American Legion Post 5, both of Rehoboth Beach. He was a member of St. Edmond’s Catholic Church and a long-time trustee of Old Drawyer’s Church in Odessa. Pool was remembered for his quick wit and the passion in his heart, mostly especially for the Catholic Sisters. He will be truly missed by many whose lived he touched, including Smokey, his favorite feline.
Pool was preceded in death by his parents, Zadoc A. and Rose (Dougherty) Pool, and his son, Roger S. “Roggie” Pool Jr. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Joyce (Brainard) Pool; a daughter, Michele J. Pool of Eatontown, N.J., and her partner, Terry; one brother, Zadoc Pool of Dover, and his wife, Joan; and several nieces and nephews. His extended family includes a stepdaughter, Donna West, her husband, Fred, and children, Grant and Margot West.
A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for Thursday, July 26, 2012, at 11 a.m., with visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Avenue in Rehoboth Beach, Del. Interment with military honors will be Thursday, Aug. 2, at 11 a.m. at Old Drawyer’s Church Cemetery, Route 13 South in Odessa, Del.
