Tickets for Ocean City’s 34th annual Sunfest headline acts will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 14. Ocean City’s most popular festival, Sunfest 2008, will take place in the resort’s Inlet Parking Lot, Thursday through Sunday, Sept. 18-21.
Thursday, Sept. 18, will feature Cornell Gunter’s Coasters, The Marvelettes and The Platters on stage at 8 p.m. Ticket prices are $10, $15 and $20. The Coasters are best known for songs like “Smokey Joe’s Café,” “Yakety Yak” and “Charlie Brown.” Along with The Marvelettes’ “Please Mr. Postman,” and The Platters’ “Only You,” “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” and “The Great Pretender,” organizers are offering an evening of oldies music.
On Friday, Sept. 19, at 8 p.m., country star Rodney Atkins will perform on the Sunfest stage. Atkins has racked up four consecutive No. 1 hits, including “These are My People” and “Cleaning the Gun (Come on in Boy).” Tickets are $20, $30, $34 and $39.
The Commodores are the headline act on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 8 p.m. The Commodores dominated the pop charts as a highly successful funk soul band of the 1970s and 1980s. The group’s hits have included ballads such as “Easy” and “Three Times a Lady,” along with dance-floor hits “Brick House” and “Fancy Dancer” among others. Tickets cost $15, $20, $30, $35, $40 and $45.
Tickets for all Sunfest headline acts will be on sale at the box office located in the Roland E. Powell Convention Center on 40th Street. Box office hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Buyers may also order through TicketMaster at 1-800-551-7328 or www.ticketmaster.com.
Sunfest will also feature four days of free entertainment on two stages, Sept. 18-21 at the Inlet Lot and beach, along with arts and crafts and foods. Tickets are already on sale for headline acts for Ocean City’s Springfest, set for May 1-4. Headline acts will perform on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at Springfest at 8 p.m. On Thursday night, May 1, Beatlemania Again will perform, with tickets costing $5 and $10. On Friday evening, May 2, featured will be the country sounds of Emerson Drive, with tickets costing $15 to $35. On Saturday evening, May 3, Three Dog Night will perform, with tickets ranging from $15 to $35.
