Tidepool Toys & Games to celebrate Neighborhood Toy Store Day on Nov. 9
On Saturday, Nov. 9, Tidepool Toys & Games, located on the boardwalk in Bethany Beach, will join more than 600 independent toy stores across the country in celebrating Neighborhood Toy Store Day. Kids of all ages can come out to enjoy games, prizes, balloon twisting, a magic show and even a reptile show.
Sandy and Lori Smyth are owners of Tidepool Toys & Games, which is a member of the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association (ASTRA). The nationwide event was established by ASTRA in order to help local communities celebrate the joy of play while supporting the local retailer’s commitment to the community.
“Neighborhood Toy Store Day is an exciting way for our store to give back to our valued customers by providing a day full of family entertainment and fun,” said Lori Smyth. “We are happy to give back to our local community, as well, by contributing to the Toys for Tots charity in our area. Twenty percent of sales on Neighborhood Toy Store Day will go to the purchase of Toys for Tots. Last year, it was so exciting to see the collection box overflowing by the end of the day!”
This year’s festivities will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the kickoff of the Toys for Tots toy drive. Members of the First State Detachment Marine Corps League will be on-site to greet customers and to commemorate the 238th birthday of the Marine Corps.
At 11 a.m. will be “Jungle John’s Reptile Show.” Since 1988, “Edutainer” Jungle John has been entertaining audiences ages 1 to 100 with his reptile shows. Audience member on Nov. 9 can meet “Wally Gator,” a 5.5-foot American alligator; “Larry Boa,” a 10-foot boa constrictor; and more than a dozen other reptiles and amphibians. The show is designed to be educational and fun.
Starting at noon, children will be entertained with balloon twisting, games and craft demonstrations, as well as hourly drawings for prizes and free giveaways.
Beginning at 12:45 p.m., Dickens Parlour Theatre will be returning with a free magic show.
Following the show, children will be invited to take part in the Tidepool Toys Beach Olympics, which will begin at 1:30 p.m. Weather permitting, games for all ages will take place, including sack races, egg-and-spoon races, Frisbee throws and PlasmaCar races. Prizes will be handed out for winners and participants.
The staff at Tidepool Toys & Games will be on hand throughout the day to help shoppers find toys for children on their gift lists. The 2013 Best Toys for Kids Award list will highlight toys that are considered to deliver the highest quality and play value.
Sandy and Lori Smyth urged everyone to come out on Neighborhood Toy Store Day and be a part of community-minded fun in the spirit of giving.
