Velma B. Schenk, 85

Velma B. Schenk, 85, of Bethany Beach, Del., passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, surrounded by her family. She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Walter in Aberdeen, Md., for many years before retiring in the 1970’s. She and her husband then traveled extensively throughout Central and North America. They also owned and operated Lake Forest Campground in Deep Creek Lake, Md., for 20 years.

Schenk was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Dwight Schenk, who passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008. She is survived by four daughters, Carole Lindes and Donna Wade of Bethany Beach, Ellie Garrison of Aberdeen, Md. and Vickie Frazier of Ocean City, Md.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elinore Browning of Bethany Beach and Norma Bolding of Oakland, Md.

A memorial service for both Velma and Dwight Schenk at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Oakland, Md., is being planned.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed the companionship of her many pets and always became a trusted friend to any lucky stray animal that happened upon her doorstep. With that in mind, the family suggests that donations in her memory be made to the Worcester County Humane Society, P.O. Box 48, Berlin, MD 21811.
