The Ocean View Search Committee met on Nov. 28 to discuss the advertisement and the receipt of résumés for the town manager position.

Selbyville police arrested Jeffrey Paddock, 49, of Ocean View on Wednesday, Nov. 23, for his alleged involvement in a string of local burglaries.

The Kool Bean Bistro in Ocean View hosted a daylong fundraiser for Lord Baltimore Women’s Club on Nov. 11. Money raised from an auction and 50/50 drawing, as well as a percentage of all restaurant sales that day, helped the group raise nearly $750. All the proceeds will benefit the Women’s Club’s educational projects, such as scholarships for local students and activities at nearby elementary schools.

Ocean View Town Councilman Bob Lawless this week discussed the idea of converting Woodland Avenue, from the intersection of Atlantic and Woodland Avenues south to the intersection of Woodland and Central Avenues and east of Ventral and West Avenues, into a one-way street.

They grinned as a DelDOT tour guide led them across the newly completed 10-foot closure pour, which connected the two halves of the new bridge. Motorists had become accustomed to seeing the incomplete north and south sections move closer together until Oct. 18, when the closure pour was completed.

On Wednesday, Nov. 9, Delaware will join all other states in conducting the first nationwide Emergency Alert System (EAS) test. At 2 p.m., radio, television and cable stations will broadcast the familiar alert warning sound. Following the alert sound, the recorded message on broadcast media will state, “This is a test.” The audio message will be the same for both radio and television.

The town of Ocean View held a public hearing on Nov. 1 to solicit comments from citizens regarding the town’s future management structure and the University of Delaware’s Institute of Public Administration (IPA) study, which was commissioned by the council earlier this year.

It was standing-room-only at the old Ocean View town hall on Oct. 19 as townsfolk gathered to reminisce and hear the history of Pop Parsons’ general store. The Ocean View Historical Society hosted an evening with Dr. J. Robert “Bob” Parsons, whose grandfather owned the J.M. Parsons Store in the 1940s and ’50s.

On Oct. 25, Ocean View Councilwoman Michelle Steffens again raised the topic of a town resolution requesting that the state of Delaware and its agencies seek funding for the Assawoman Canal Pathway project. At their Oct. 11 meeting, the town council had adopted the resolution, with a vote of 3-1.

Delaware’s Department of Transportation has announced that beginning this evening, Wednesday, Nov. 2, there will be a shift in traffic patterns on Route 1 just north of the Indian River Inlet Bridge. The shift will be implemented to ensure continued road safety due to dune erosion adjacent to the northbound lanes, they said.

Both the northbound and southbound lanes of Route 1, near the Indian River Inlet will close at approximately 9 p.m. tonight, due to high storm tides, report  officials from the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT).

Chef Derek Woodhouse began working as a sous-chef at Kool Bean Café in Ocean View more than five years ago, but he is now the head chef there. Originally from Baltimore, Md., Derek is a huge Baltimore Ravens fan.

Delaware State Police Troop 4 Property Unit detectives this week charged a Frankford man and woman in connection with five residential burglaries that took place Wednesday evening, Oct. 19, in Plantation Park, west of Ocean View.

In an effort to slow down the rampant prescription drug abuse plaguing both this community and the nation as a whole, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is holding another national drug take-back event on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Saturday, Oct. 29, the Ocean View Church of Christ will be holding their own kind of trick-or-treating. Trunk-or Treat – according to Angela Rodkey, whose husband, Vince, is the youth and family minister at the church – is an event the church held five years ago and is looking to bring back.

On Oct. 13, Lord Baltimore Elementary School students and staff, along with members of the Bethany Beach and Millville volunteer fire companies, commenced a week of activities highlighting fire safety, in recognition of Fire Prevention Week.

On Tuesday, Oct. 25, the Town of Ocean View will hold a public meeting and workshop to help inform residents about a report produced by the University of Delaware’s Institute of Public Affairs regarding the town’s organizational structure.

Representatives from the Lyme Disease Association of the Eastern Shore of Maryland (LDAESM) hosted a meeting this week at the Ocean View Police Department. In addition to their monthly meetings, they have hosted other events on the Delmarva Peninsula to help educate and bring awareness on the subject of Lyme disease.

Bethany Beach playwright Bob Davis is returning to the Dickens Parlour Theatre in Millville with a staged reading of “Pretty Face, Pretty Lies,” a comedy murder-mystery. It marks Davis’ 12th full-length feature play. Starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, guests can enjoy hors d’oeuvres from Cripple Creek Country Club and beverages, followed by a staged reading at the Bistro Cafe, located in the front building of Dickens Parlour Theatre.
